Der primäre Zweck des vorliegenden ersten Teils von Condivi ist es, den Volltext der "Vita di Michelagnolo Buonarroti (1553)" zu präsentieren. Condivi, Teil 2 wird eine ausführlichere Einleitung und Analyse des Textes enthalten, mit besonderem Augenmerk auf die Umstände der seinerzeit entgegen früheren Planungen zeitlich vorgezogenen Veröffentlichung bereits im Juli 1553. Die aufeinander folgenden Teile der FONTES Condivi-Ausgabe werden sich mit Condivi und mit dem Text intensiv beschäftigen. Sie werden u.a. den Kommentar, die Erschließung und die vollständige Bibliographie umfassen.

The Vita constitutes nearly an authorised biography of the master. Condivi’s Vita is also the first printed life of a living artist in a single book. The purpose of Condivi, Part I, is to present the Full Text of the "Vita di Michelagnolo Buonarroti (1553)". Part II will provide an initial introduction to the text, considering in particular the circumstances surrounding its ‘precipitous publication’ in July 1553. In successive Parts of the FONTES Condivi edition there will be presented a full introduction and analysis of the text, including indexing, commentary, and complete references to the literature.
