As part of the international collaboration project
„German Sales 1930-1945. Art Works, Art Markets, and Cultural Policy“ between Heidelberg University Library, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and Getty Research Institute around 10,000 auction catalogues dating from 1901 to 1945 from Germany, Switzerland, Austria and the countries occupied by Germany during the Second World War have been digitized and put online since 2013. The relevant secondary literature used during the content-based cataloguing and research was compiled in the bibliography “Bibliography on the Art Market in German-speaking Countries Until 1945.” Moreover, the bibliography will be continuously extended with the aim of creating a comprehensive and up-to-date interdisciplinary database of research literature on the expropriation policy and the role of the German art market in the Nazi era. To a lesser extent, the topics of provenance research and restitution efforts are also dealt with.
The bibliography is hosted and operated by
Heidelberg University Library in the context of their current third party funded project “arthistoricum.net – Specialized Information Service for Art”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The titles are determined by researchers, fed in and subject catalogued by project staff of the Südwestdeutsche Bibliotheksverbund, the Southwest German Union catalogue (SWB). The presentation is realized using the open access software Discovery Systems
VuFind.
The bibliography is still under construction. If you know of titles that are to be included, do not hesitate to contact us by email.
