Shrnutí:Alexandre Lenoir, a fervent defender of the arts in the face of revolutionary vandalism, was the creator and administrator of the Musée des Monuments Français from 1795 to its closing and the dispersal of its collections in 1816. This book represents the result of a program of interdisciplinary research. It describes the history and the influence of the Musée des Monuments Français and of Lenoir on the conservation of cultural heritage and on museography. It shows the multifaceted interests of Lenoir, from the Celtic age to classical antiquity, from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, from the time of Louis XIV to the 19th century. More than an exhibition catalog, it is a reference work for the Musée des Monuments Français. It brings together the contributions of many specialists, and includes previously unpublished images, notably the watercolors of Jean-Lubin Vauzelle
