Philip and Peter Paul Rubens in Rome: newly discovered documents concerning their early careers : documents published here help elucidate the time that Peter Paul Rubens and his eldest brother, Philip, spent in Rome in the early seventeenth century : both brothers were helped at this stage of their careers by the patronage of Archduke Albert VII of Austria, to whom they were introduced by mutual friends in Flanders, notably the humanist scholar Justus Lipsius
