Авторские замечания: | Isak Mestetshkin |
Примечания: | In the 38 pages long memoir, edited and prepared for publication by the Yiddish poetess Dore Khaykine, the author - Isak Mestetshkin - reports in detail the time of his captivity in German prisoners‘ camps during WWII, beginning with his imprisonment, after being picked up 1,5 km. from the Crimean coast. The author focuses on conditions in prisoner’s camps: epidemies, lack of food and of medical care, in particular the focus is on the continous hunt for Jewish prisoners and on the frequent transfers to various camps: from Poland to Germany („Stalag“ camp) then to Finland and Norway where Mestetshkin was interned first in the camp „Polar krayz“ and then in “Folks-shtadt“ until May 8th, 1945. The report touches also on the few friendly, human people, - Norvegian, German and Russian who made his life possible. |
