Author Notes: | Moyshe Goldblat |
Notes: | Goldblat's essay on the noted Jewish musician, violinist and composer Lev Pulver (1883-1970), begins with the 1020s, in particular with his overture to Goldfaden's "kishefmakhern". The influence of this artist on music and on theatre, his biography, his background as a "poor klezmerl", as well as his amazinly fast career, is described in detail. Pulver's work at the Peterburger Opera house, at the Bolshoi theater in Moscow and as the musical director of the State Jewish Theatre at the GOSET is also further commented. |
