Aantekeningen: | Aleksander Shifman describes in his article the events after the Kishinev pogrom in 1903, in particular Sholem Aleykhem's endeavour to publish a volume, entitled "Hilf", containing contributions by the most noted Russian and Yiddish authors. The revenues from the book sale were to finance helpful measures for the victims of the pogrom. Leo Tolstoy was one of the authors contacted by Sholem Aleykhem. The correspondence between Sholem Aleykhem and Tolstoy regarding this project is quoted and commented upon. |
