Since their rediscovery at the end of the nineteenth century, the painter Hieronymus Bosch and his singular oeuvre have been at the centre of scholarly interest. The diversity of research questions and topics with which Bosch’s life and work have been scrutinized is so large that the usual bibliographic tools limit the scope of any search. A first, annotated Bosch-bibliography was presented by Walter Gibson in 1983. Since then numerous new publications have appeared. With the forthcoming 500th anniversary of Bosch’s death, it seems necessary to submit an updated research bibliography. The Department for Mittlere und Neuere Kunstgeschichte at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart bears the responsibility for the content of this bibliography.
The bibliography is currently under construction. If you are aware of any omissions, we would be grateful for the details via e-mail.
