Aus dem dritten Buch: Kunst, Künstler und Mäzene“ von Gregor Maurach. Hier wurde gezeigt, wie die Gedichte des Faustus Sabaeus die Kunstwerke verlebendigen sowie auch wie tief und genau die Bildung des 16. Jahrhunderts hinsichtlich der antiken Mythen und der antiken Geschichte war. In der vorliegenden Studie von Maurach, Echinger-Maurach und Töns sind wieder zahlreiche Auszüge (mit Übersetzungen ins Deutschen) aus Sabaeus’ Epigrammata enthalten. Nach der Einleitung werden folgende Themen besprochen: (1) Kunstwerke, Mythen und Appelle, (2) Faustus Sabaeus als Römer, (3) Faustus als Übersetzer griechischer Epigramme, (4) die besprochenen Gedichte (Übersicht), (5) Catull im Faustus, (6) Die Epigramme des Faustus Sabaeus im Lichte der Epigrammdichtung und Epigrammpoetik seiner Zeit. Anschließend ist eine ausführliche Literaturübersicht zu Sabaeus und zu der Epigrammatik seiner Zeit angeboten, sowie Personen- und Sachregister zu den Gedichten. STUDIES, BIBLIOGRAPHIES, AND REFERENCE PUBLICATIONS ABOUT SOURCES AND DOCUMENTS, 1: STUDIES, NO. 1 FONTES 31 is the continuation of FONTES 24: “Auszüge aus Faustus Sabaeus: Epigrammatum Fausti Sabaei Brixiani Custodis Bibliothecae Vaticanae Libri Quinque (Rom 1556). Aus dem dritten Buch: Kunst, Künstler und Mäzene“ by Gregor Maurach. There it is shown that the poetry of Faustus Sabaeus not only demonstrates how Sabaeus brings works of art to life, but his poems also show how deep and exact the mythological and historical knowledge of the antique was in the sixteenth century. The present study by Maurach, Echinger-Maurach, and Töns also contain very extensive quotations from Sabaeus’s Latin Epigrammata, with accompaning translations in German. After an introduction, the following topics are treated: (1) art works, myths, and appeals, (2) Faustus Sabaeus as a Roman, (3) Faustus as a translator of Greek epigrams, (4) the poems in the Epigrammata by Sabaeus, (5) Catullus in the work of Faustus, (6) the epigrams of Faustus Sabaeus in the context of epigram poetry and poetics in his time. Following is an extensive overview of the literature about Sabaeus and about epigrammatics in the period as well as indices of persons and things in the poems. |
