Notas: | Autobiographical recollections of various moments of the author's childhood, of his family, of events that took place during the First World War in Vilna and left a long lasting impression. A main theme is hunger, the search for food and for work -all kinds of menial jobs - during the German occupation; a further one are the cities, Grodno, the city of the author's childhood and Vilna that of his youth. The first encounter with Sholem Aleykhem and the first time the author saw the Russian emperor, Nikolas II, are noted among the highlight of his youth. |
